Correspondence, financial / legal papers, personal papers, printed items. and photographic materials of the Raphael Hebert family of West Baton Rouge and Iberville Parishes (La.). Also included are records from St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Brusly ( La.). Correspondence in French and English between Hebert family members and their acquaintances date from 1861 - 1960. Most correspondence flows between Hebert relatives and their associates in West Baton Rouge and Iberville Parishes, and concerns the news in those and other places in Louisiana. The most prolific correspondent is Melanie Hebert at the Academy of St. Basil in Plaquemine (La.) in the early 1870's. Many letters reflect the family's interest in civic, educational, and religious affairs. Printed items (1861-1960) and photographic materials (1901-1954, n.d.) also relate to the Heberts and their acquaintances. Raphael Hebert (1809-1894) and his descendants were residents of West Baton Rouge and Iberville Parishes (La.). In 1834 he married Marie Odile Landry (b. 1814) and with her had 12 children from 1835 - 1858. Following his first wife's death, Hebert married Julia LaBauve (1846 -1906) in 1870 and with her had four children from 1871 - 1881. Joseph Guy Hebert, son of Raphael Sr. and Julia, practiced law in Plaquemine (La.), his brother Noel (1871-1955) was a Brusly (La. ) me...
